Exploring a Site
Setting Views for a Site
Select the views that are displayed in a NavVis IVION site.
Working with Datasets
In a NavVis IVION site, you can see all the datasets with site model entities from the Datasets menu. Whether or not the dataset is selected also controls if the point cloud of that dataset is visible in point cloud mode.
Viewing the Secondary View
In most cases, the secondary view in NavVis IVION shows a map of the surrounding area.
Using Layers
You can overlay maps with layers that provide extra information on the structure of a NavVis IVION site.
Setting Point Cloud Options
NavVis IVION then loads a colored point cloud with a high amount of detail, if available.

Automatic Activation
If Automatic activation is enabled, all datasets in a site are automatically displayed in point cloud mode. If Automatic activation is disabled you need to manually select the datasets that you want to see in point cloud mode.
Quality Point Cloud Options
Item | Function | Notes |
Buttons | Set the quality options to suitable pre-defined combinations | All these pre-sets use Minimum node size (px) = 100 |
High performance | Range = 50; Level of Detail = 4; Point count target (m) = 1
Balanced (default) | Range = 150; Level of Detail = 5; Point count target (m) = 4
High quality | Range = 300; Level of Detail = 8; Point count target (m) = 8
Outdoors | Range = 300; Level of Detail = 5; Point count target (m) = 4
Down/Up button | Hide/unhide detailed quality options
Range(m) | Controls the maximum distance (from the camera perspective) at which points are still displayed.
Level of Detail | Controls the size and resolution at which the points are rendered | Minimum resolution is 5 mm |
Point count target (m) | Controls how many points are shown (in millions). Beyond that number no more points are rendered. | Has important influence on performance. |
Minimum node size (px) | Show points only if they are part of a node larger than indicated (in pixels on the screen, e.g. 10 x 10). A node is a group of points. | Higher minimum node size means points in smaller nodes are ignored. |
Client-side picking | Let the client (instead of, as normally, the server) calculate the position of the 3D cursor. | Useful for exact measurements, or if the connection is slow. |
Perspective Appearance Point Cloud Options
Item | Function | Notes |
Buttons | Set the appearance options to suitable pre-defined combinations. | All these pre-sets use: no Z-Buffer; Point size mode = Attenuated; Point shape = Square; no Shading. |
Colored (default) | Opacity = 1; Brightness = 1000; Color style = Full color; Point size mode = 0.4
Elevation | Opacity = 0.3; ; Brightness = 1000; Color style = Elevation; Height range = -3 to 11; Point size mode = 0.2
Height range | Controls the minimum/maximum height of color mapping of a point cloud. | At the lower end of the height range, points are blue, at the upper end points are red. |
Transparent color | Opacity = 0.25; Color style = Single color; Point size = 0.4
Arrow button | Hide/unhide detailed appearance options
Use Z-Buffer | When checked, only the points in the foreground are displayed. | The checkbox is greyed out while Opacity = 1 or Shading is used, since these cases always use the Z-Buffer. |
Opacity | Render points transparently (low opacity) vs. opaque (high)
Brightness | Controls how much "light" points give off | Only available when Opacity is different from 1 |
Color style | Choose how the point clouds are colored
Full color | Shows colored point clouds | Point clouds are colored during post-processing using color information from images |
Single color | Uses the dataset color as set in Alignment mode
Elevation | Points are rendered in rainbow colors corresponding to their height value
Normals | Points are colored based on direction of their normals
Color by Z | Like Hue Scale and Hue Offset in Standard Renderer, controls range of colors used | Only with Color style = Elevation |
Point size mode | Choose how point size is determined
Fixed | All points have the same size, as controlled by the Point size setting
Attenuated | Takes distance of point from camera into account
Adaptive | Takes distance from camera and point cloud resolution into account
Point size | Point cloud diameter
Point shape | Choose whether to render the points as squares or as circles
Shading | Provides non-photorealistic shading around the contours of the point cloud. Activates the options "Radius" and "Strength" to control appearance of Shading. | Useful in single color mode for enhancing depth-perception |

Floor Changer
If your building has multiple floors, you can change the floor using the floor changer menu on the right side of your NavVis IVION site. You will be able to navigate to any of the listed floors of the current building.
In the panorama view, all floors of the current building are listed in the floor changer menu on the right. In the map view, all floors of the visible buildings are listed in the floor changer panel.
Follow these steps to use the floor changer:Adjusting Point Size in Point Cloud Mode

Viewing and Changing User Settings
From the User icon in NavVis IVION, you can view the groups you belong to, the permissions you have, edit your profile, set the language and unit system for NavVis IVION, view the documentation, and sign out of NavVis IVION.
Select the User icon in the top right of your instance dashboard or site:
Select Your Groups from the user panel to see the site location and the permission level you have for that site.
- Select Your Permissions from the user panel to see the individual permissions you have for that site.
- Select Edit Profile from the user panel to edit the profile associated with the instance:
Change the first name and last name.
Change the email address.
- Change the password.Note: In the event that a password becomes lost or forgotten the administrator of the instance needs to reset the password for you. Refer to Reset Instance Password.
- Select Language & Unit System from the user panel and use the drop-down menus to change the language and unit system for NavVis IVION. If you select English, you also have to select the unit system (metric or imperial). All other languages default to the unit system for that language. After you select the language and system unit, the interface immediately displays your selection.
- Select Documentation from the user panel to view the NavVis IVION documentation.
- Select About to display the following:
