Exploring a Site

Follow these steps to explore a site in NavVis IVION:
  1. To see the different views while moving in your NavVis IVION site, you must first activate them in the site View menu. For more information, see Setting Views for a Site.

From a site, you can do the following:

    • In point cloud or panorama mode, select a menu item from the left menu.
    • From the View menu, the 2D secondary view is shown in the bottom right corner of the site if you select Show secondary view. It shows the location of your captured panorama. Your location on the secondary view is indicated by a blue dot.

    • To expand the secondary view in panorama or point cloud mode, select the expand icon at the bottom right in the secondary view. The secondary view becomes the main view, and the point cloud or panorama view becomes the secondary view. Select the expand icon again to switch the views back.

The secondary view also shows any points of interest (POI) that have been created.

    • From the View menu, if you select Show location markers, you can click anywhere on the panorama or point cloud to display the location markers (white circles), or by placing your cursor over the secondary view (white dots). Use the location markers to move within the site.

    • Select one of the location markers on the floor (a black direction arrow appears in the location marker) to move the view to the panorama captured at that place.

    • Use the up and down arrow keys to move to adjacent locations. Use the left and right arrow keys to rotate left or right.
    • Double-click anywhere on the panorama or point cloud to move to the closest location to the point you selected.
    • At the top left of the site, the Search field searches for points of interest (POI), POI descriptions and custom data, and site model entities.
  2. Click anywhere on the secondary view to move to the closest location. A blue dot represents you on the 2D secondary map, and a gray beam from the blue dot indicates the direction you are facing.
If you have access to more than one site, you can go back to the instance dashboard by selecting the blue globe at the top right of the site.

Setting Views for a Site

Select the views that are displayed in a NavVis IVION site.

Follow the steps below to select views for a site:
Note: You can select multiple views to display, but if you select Show point cloud, it will deselect show panoramas. Select Show panoramas again to display the panoramas.
  1. In a site, from the left menu, select the View icon to open the view menu.
  2. To activate a view for a site, select a checkbox next to a view. To deactivate a view for a site, deselect the checkbox next to it.
    ViewsDescription
Show point cloudShow the point cloud and hide panoramas.
Show panoramasShow the panoramic image for the current location.
Show secondary viewShow the secondary view (usually the map view) in the bottom right corner.
Show location markersShow the location markers (white circles with black arrows) representing the locations where a panoramic image was captured.

Working with Datasets

In a NavVis IVION site, you can see all the datasets with site model entities from the Datasets menu. Whether or not the dataset is selected also controls if the point cloud of that dataset is visible in point cloud mode.

Follow these steps to work with datasets:
  1. In a site, from the left menu, select Datasets.
  2. To navigate to a specific dataset, place your cursor over the dataset and select the navigation icon next to it.
  3. To edit a dataset, place your cursor over the dataset and select the pencil icon next to it.
  4. To show only datasets or site entities, click Datasets or Site entities.
  5. To sort datasets, click the up-and-down arrow icon and select how you want to sort the datasets.
  6. To select or deselect a single dataset, switch to point cloud mode and click the eye icon next to the dataset.
  7. To select or deselect all datasets in a floor or building, switch to point cloud mode and click the eye icon next to the floor or building name. Whether or not the dataset is selected also controls if the point cloud of that dataset is visible.

Viewing the Secondary View

In most cases, the secondary view in NavVis IVION shows a map of the surrounding area.

To use the map as the main view and use the panorama as the secondary view, click the small expand icon in the bottom right corner.

Using Layers

You can overlay maps with layers that provide extra information on the structure of a NavVis IVION site.

Follow these steps to use layers:
  1. PLace your cursor over or expand the map view in the bottom right corner.
  2. Click the Layers icon.
  3. Select the layer that you want to activate. You have the following options:
    • Standard: shows the map view without any additional layers being activated
    • Datasets: shows the location and names of datasets
    • Site entities: shows the location and names of site model entities
    • Scan data: shows the scanning trajectory and control points

Setting Point Cloud Options

In a site, follow these steps to select point cloud options from the View menu:
  1. To show the point cloud in NavVis IVION, select the View menu (eye icon) and then select the checkbox next to Show point cloud.
  2. In the View menu, quick settings for the appearance and quality of the point cloud appear. From the Quality or Perspective Appearance drop-down menus, select more detailed options that will be displayed for the point cloud.

NavVis IVION then loads a colored point cloud with a high amount of detail, if available.

Automatic Activation

If Automatic activation is enabled, all datasets in a site are automatically displayed in point cloud mode. If Automatic activation is disabled you need to manually select the datasets that you want to see in point cloud mode.

Quality Point Cloud Options

ItemFunctionNotes
ButtonsSet the quality options to suitable pre-defined combinationsAll these pre-sets use Minimum node size (px) = 100
High performanceRange = 50; Level of Detail = 4; Point count target (m) = 1
Balanced (default)Range = 150; Level of Detail = 5; Point count target (m) = 4
High qualityRange = 300; Level of Detail = 8; Point count target (m) = 8
OutdoorsRange = 300; Level of Detail = 5; Point count target (m) = 4
Down/Up buttonHide/unhide detailed quality options
Range(m)Controls the maximum distance (from the camera perspective) at which points are still displayed.
Level of DetailControls the size and resolution at which the points are rendered Minimum resolution is 5 mm
Point count target (m)Controls how many points are shown (in millions). Beyond that number no more points are rendered.Has important influence on performance.
Minimum node size (px)Show points only if they are part of a node larger than indicated (in pixels on the screen, e.g. 10 x 10). A node is a group of points.Higher minimum node size means points in smaller nodes are ignored.
Client-side pickingLet the client (instead of, as normally, the server) calculate the position of the 3D cursor.Useful for exact measurements, or if the connection is slow.

Perspective Appearance Point Cloud Options

ItemFunctionNotes
ButtonsSet the appearance options to suitable pre-defined combinations. All these pre-sets use: no Z-Buffer; Point size mode = Attenuated; Point shape = Square; no Shading.
Colored (default)Opacity = 1; Brightness = 1000; Color style = Full color; Point size mode = 0.4
ElevationOpacity = 0.3; ; Brightness = 1000; Color style = Elevation; Height range = -3 to 11; Point size mode = 0.2
Height rangeControls the minimum/maximum height of color mapping of a point cloud. At the lower end of the height range, points are blue, at the upper end points are red.

If your building has multiple floors, you can change the floor using the floor changer menu on the right side of your NavVis IVION site. You will be able to navigate to any of the listed floors of the current building.

In the panorama view, all floors of the current building are listed in the floor changer menu on the right. In the map view, all floors of the visible buildings are listed in the floor changer panel.

Follow these steps to use the floor changer:
From the floor changer menu, select a floor number and the site view will move to that floor.
Note: If the floor changer panel does not show up or does not work as expected, the site model might be absent or too imprecise.
The site view moves to the floor you selected.
