Points of Interest (POI) are points defined in the 3D coordinate system of a NavVis IVION site that have additional information attached to them.
All POIs have a type, type group, and position. You can also set their name, description, icon, importance, and more. The POI names and descriptions can be set for one or more languages. The content of a POI description can be anything from plain text to embedded iframes. Adding custom data to POIs is useful for interfacing with applications built on top of NavVis IVION.
POI types and POI type groups organize the POIs in a site:
Each POI is part of one POI type.
Each POI type is part of one POI type group.
A new NavVis IVION site comes with default POI types such as "Stairs" or "Parking", and POI type groups such as "Access" or "Transport". Someone with site administrator privileges can add, delete, or edit types to fit your use case.
In a site, the POI Types menu lists all POI types and type groups in the site. From this menu, you can edit POI types and type groups, and filter which POI types to display.
From the View drop-down menu and the Edit drop-down menu, select which user groups can view and edit the POI.
In the description box, type the POI description/content.
To add another language, click the + Add language button in the top right of the dialog. Then, repeat the steps for any other languages the POI should translate to.
With NavVis IVION, you can set a view for each POI, which will be replicated when another user clicks on that POI.
While creating a POI, you have two options under View configuration:
use current view
use closest panoramic image
By default, the current view will be used as the view for a POI.
If you want to customize the POI view, choose use current view. This will save your present view location, angle, and zoom level. Before applying this option make sure to adjust NavVis IVION to the exact view you want to set for your POI.
Note: When choosing use current view, make sure to set your view in panorama mode. A customized view set in point cloud mode will not be transferred to panorama mode.
When editing a POI, a third option appears: Use previously specified view. If selected, when you close the Edit POI dialog, your view settings will be the same. If you want to change the POI's view, click use closest panoramic image or use current view.
After you have created a POI, you can edit its name, description, and other attributes.
Note: Users belonging to only the EVERYONE group do not have permission to edit POIs but are still able to view them.
Follow these steps to edit a POI:
Locate the POI you want to edit from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Select the POI and click Edit in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
Important: The user who created the POI must give your user group editing access to edit the POI. A site admin can always edit a POI.
Change the name, category, description, media, or other attributes of the POI. See also Creating a POI.
Add custom data to a POI. For example, add custom data for an application built on top of NavVis IVION.
Follow these steps to enter any additional custom data:
Locate the POI you want to add custom data to from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Select the POI and click Edit in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
Click the Advanced tab.
In the Custom data field, paste your custom data string into the text field.
After you created a POI, you can add custom attributes to it. For example, a custom attribute can be an external system reference to connect a geolocation to a record not stored within NavVis IVION.
Follow these steps to add custom attributes to a POI:
Locate the POI you want to add custom attributes to from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Select the POI and click Edit in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
Click the Advanced tab.
From the Custom Attributes area, enter the key in the Key field and the value for the key in the Value field.
Click + next to the fields to add the custom attribute to the POI. They are added beneath the existing fields. You can delete the custom attributes for the POI by clicking delete next to the custom attribute.
By default, a POI is displayed with the icon associated with its type. However, you have the option of uploading a custom icon for a POI.
Follow these steps to change a POI icon to a custom icon:
Locate the POI you want to edit from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Click EDIT in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
Click the Advanced tab.
Select the custom icon.
Click Upload icon to upload a new icon from your computer.
Custom icons must be raster images (JPG or PNG) with a size of 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, or 256x256 pixels.
Or, click on the list icon to the left of the Upload icon button to choose a recently uploaded icon.
Or, click Remove custom icon to remove a previously uploaded icon from the POI.
After creating a POI, you can move it to a new position in your site.
Follow these steps to move a POI:
Locate the POI you want to edit from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Click EDIT in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
Click Move, located below the rich text editor.
The editing dialog is hidden. Cancel and Save Position buttons appear at the bottom of the POI details panel.
Click in either the 2D map view or 3D panorama view where you want to place the POI.
The importance attribute in a POI is a priority setting to help determine which POIs should be hidden first while scrolling out of the map. POIs are hidden when their icons crowd too close together. High importance POIs disappear last.
Follow these steps to change the importance of a POI:
Locate the POI you want to edit from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Click EDIT in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
Go to the Advanced tab.
From the Importance drop-down menu, select the new importance level.
Attach media such as images or audio files to POIs.
Follow these steps to attach media to a POI:
Locate the POI you want to attach media to from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Click EDIT in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
To limit the chance of POI descriptions being used to spread malicious content, a notification will warn you that you are about to leave NavVis IVION if the POI description contains external links or external content in an IFRAME of the POI before opening the content.
Note: External links are links that are not in the NavVis domain.
Locate the POI you want to delete from the site interface, or by clicking the Search field at the top left of the site and entering the POI name or description.
Click EDIT in the POI details panel to open the Edit POI dialog.
From the Category group drop-down, select the correct group for the POI category.
From Language, choose the language(s) for the name of the POI category.
In the Name field, enter the name(s).
From Icon use the default icon, or click Upload icon, to upload an icon for the type.
This icon will be the default icon for any POIs in that type, so we recommend choosing one. You can choose one of the available icons for the type or upload a new custom icon.
From the Visible from zoom field and the Visible up to zoom field, click the up or down arrow to set the zoom levels of the map at which POIs of this type should be visible. If you want, click the quick copy icons next to the fields to copy the zoom levels.
